We’re halfway there!

It’s so hard to believe that, as of Sunday, this pregnancy is already halfway over! Well, hard to believe in some ways, and it feels like it’s been forever in others!

The first half of pregnancy definitely saw its ups and downs. The first trimester was a little on the rough side, even though I tried to keep a sunny outlook. I definitely don’t miss the days of taking two naps and going to bed at 9 p.m. only to wake up feeling exhausted again. Or the constant nausea, or the worry about making it past those ever-important (and scary!) first twelve weeks.

But all the bad stuff during the first tri was totally worth it when we got to see our sweet baby for the first time at our 9-week ultrasound. The feeling was indescribable; Bobby and I both cried tears of joy as we watched our little teddy graham/peanut bounce around on the screen and wave at us with tiny little arms.

Thankfully not long after that ultrasound I actually started feeling significantly better! By the time the 2nd trimester rolled around, I had a lot more energy and actually felt like eating again. And it’s stayed that way so far! The other big change in the 2nd tri is that I’m definitely showing a lot more, which I expected, but it’s pretty neat to look back at my weekly pictures and see how my belly’s growing along with the baby.

So far our 2nd trimester doctor appointments have been pretty run-of-the-mill, with urine samples and checking the baby’s heartbeat each time, then talking with Dr. Bolton about any questions we have. Even though having to wait to see the baby again is tough, it’s still so special to hear the heartbeat each month.

We celebrated our halfway point on Sunday by getting Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked frozen yogurt. Now, of course, we’re turning our attention to the second half of pregnancy, with putting together a birth plan, signing up for child birth/prep classes and waiting on our big ultrasound where we should be able to find out the gender next week! We’re continuing to work on things around the house, too, though progress on the nursery has halted. Gotta get back on that!

It’s still so hard to believe that we’ll be adding a new, sweet little family member in just 4 1/2 months!
